The Memory of the Mistake that lead me to Midian is still fresh in my mind, just as i jump out of the small boat. Before I go further let me explain my past, I was born Ferris Gausman in a small dead end town in the back roads of the mainland. My dad was killed in the war, and my mother always reminded me how much I looked and acted like dad. But i wasn't like dad at all. You see, there was something I never wanted to reveal to anyone. I was gay. The pure shame it would put on my mother pressured me to keep my desires to myself. It was also my doom, You see It pushed me to move away from the town I called home for so many years, to meet others who were like me. At a young age I moved to the big city and began working at the Mainland Times, first it was getting coffee and picking up press suits, but soon I began writing for this prestigious newspaper. My career was moving up, last September I was giving the new position of investigative reporter. I was making the big time bucks! Until the night of my grave mistake, It was a regular night I was hanging out near the bar when I met someone. I thought it was my lucky night, when the night was over he invited me up to his penthouse downtown, the night was going so perfect! One thing led to another, and we where In Bed, until the lights turned on, and his dad walks in.. I was terrified to find out his dad was the owner of Mainland Times. I quickly sprang up hoping he wouldn't see my face, but It was too late. I rushed home that night thinking about what will happen the next morning. When i got to work my boss pulled me into his office.
"Son, I've got an assignment for YOU!" my boss said eagerly. I felt a rush of relief come over me, my boss continued "I can't tell you much more about it, so I've instructed the captain to give you the details of your assignment".
"Thanks Sir, I won't let you down" I replied.
"Now get going, your boat leaves in one hour.. grab some clothing and get moving". I ran to my apartment and packed lightly for the trip, I kept thinking this is my big break. I'm going to be breaking news to the nation! I rush to the boat, and was greeted by an overweight grey haired captain. He started the engine and went full speed ahead from the mainland. When it was out of sight, he gave me a brown envelope marked Top Secret! I opened it up and couldn't believe my eyes! I was heading to Midian City to investigate rumors of Vampires. This was just one big plot to get me off the mainland. There's no vampires, I can't believe they would think i was dumb enough to believe this. I wanted to jump of the boat right there. But a crew member held me back. About an hour later the boat was overcome by this thick blanket of gas.. That was one of the last things I remember before waking up with the boat grounded on land and the captain and crew dead. I just got here two days ago, but it feels like forever, with no one to call a friend, and more enemies to shake a stick at. But strange people live in Midian City, the other day I saw a half human half cat. Sometimes I wonder if I really didn't wake up from my boat ride. I know this sounds like I'm crazy, but if Vampires exist. I'll find them! So I can't try to get out of this god forsaken island. And become a legendary investigative reporter doing it.
