I know that some Midian folks own land on Hope Islands and I wanted to make sure you've seen this post from the Second Lifers LJ community:

Does anyone have any idea what's going on with the Serenity Island chain? My land is now gone - the whole freaking island chain is gone along with the Hope Island chain and the landowner is disavowing any reasons why. I'm getting a 'due to circumstances beyond our control' dance. And all my inventory from there is gone. We're talking almost $20,000 L of single, no copy items I've been collecting for over a year against the day I had my own land.
I did an in-world chat with LL and got bupkis. I'm now in the middle of 'he said. she said' on who is responsible for my property. I've filed an AR. Not holding out much hope. |
I'm hoping this doesn't affect any of us!
Take care!

May I make a suggestion to anyone interested in LAND in SL.
This is going to sound harsh but there are MANY CROOKED people (like in RL) looking to scam people here.
SL has been riddled with incidents here where good, decent people have lost great amounts of L's and properties. One such case was when several BANKS in SL failed and the poor people who had accounts there lost everything.
Unfortinately, we are living in this online world in an environment that has few protections like in RL. We have no FDIC for banks, no small claim courts or other devices available to us.
Luckily, they are also many decent land developers out there, who are long established and offer quality land, at fair prices to people.
Much like in RL, you would not make a major purchase blindly, why do it here. There are many people in SL who have business backgrounds and are willing to help others to understand things. It is not a disgrace to ask a person to explain something you do not understand.
PLEASE, ask for help if needed. If you don't know who to contact regarding things then find someone who does.
Although my knowledge is limited in many ways, if I can ever advise a person regarding real estate or business in SL (These are areas I have a bit of expertise in) then please feel free to IM me anytime and ask.
It is only though the efforts of citizens helping each other can we all make SL a much finer experience.
Anyone who wishes to contact me does not have to be a citzien of Midian to ask for help. If you have friends from other "sims" needing advice or assistance I certainly would help them if I could. Even though Midian is my "home" I still live in this entire world we know as SL and am here to help all who live here with me. _________________ "YES, I KNOW your life is full of "DRAMA", but sometimes you just have to put on your big girl panties and deal with things" |

I think I was always very lucky I heard such horror stories but the Islands I rented on were always great service and never ever messed me around.
Two people / companies I'd happily refer any time, both been in the business a while.
Lucy Horton - Three Sisters.
Mies Losangeles - MiMi Rentals _________________ My Midian City Photos

Anybody renting land should be aware that even with the best of intentions, personal circumstance could cause problems nobody could plan for. An illness, or some financial difficulty, could force the owner's attention back to their RL and leave their tenants -- understandably but unhappily -- in distant second place, priority-wise.
It's a risk you accept when you rent. |
