Ok. This thread I want to do for the 'new' ones to exchange how they got started. I noticed another thread went that way, so I figured why not as well do a thread of it's own.....

I can list on one hand how I meet 99% of the people I've meet in Midian... & that's been hanging around in the zone listening and interacting when possible... I've meet only a couple people just randomly wandering around...

To prove the point I spent nearly 6 hours yesterday typing emotes of making paper airplanes and letting them sail down main street Midian... plenty of possible interactions with that... Heck just making a quick emote of '/me wonders where the paper airplanes are coming from.' would have thrilled me... In the end I had three people respond to my emotes, two of which are people I have on my friends list... ;)

Not such good results, but it was an experiment in 'Well if I can't find them, then maybe I can make them find me', without any annoying shouting or spamming... Unless you consider 1 paper airplane comment every 5 to ten minutes spamming...

We all had the same problems when starting in the city: there are set up plots, factions, and whatsonot, so how to get into it. Patience is one magic word, as factions could be seen as 'proof of good RP', and yes, of course there we go: the good RP and the idea that's behind it when creating a character.

Soooooo: What did YOU do to get noticed in Midian?

I never had much a problem getting noticed. *meeps* My problem was accepting the fact I had to be in a faction to get some long term decent RP, short term was not a deal, but then I knew people here too before coming and got into a faction right away, wasn't sure I wanted to be though. Once in a faction, the RP grows from that pretty easily, so it just takes a week or two to carve a good niche into things. My problem is I wish I had more free time to play at all, it does take some time and a certain dedication to it.

And yeah Shadow, I had my first RP first day sparked from hanging at TZ.

Easy. I found everyone who was trying to force sex in the back allies and all over town and i proceeded to fuck-em-up. pretty soon, i was ruining everyone's good time and i got noticed! just piss the whole town off and you'll do just fine! =D

That or have a REAL good gimic. Mercy's is his armor that i made myself along with his hero role and 'heavy metal' title. he stands out like a sore nutsack.

Hmm I guess I was never really "noticed" except by Chandra and her family. Then again I pretty much just walked in to the grave yard and started poking fun at them *grins a bit*. After that I got into the Catwalkers and have been poking and prodding people since then. And now I have a more pressing task at hand and I'll enjoy every moment of it afterwards.

I was probably known for a while as the cute homeless neko girl who would get drunk a lot at the TZ and have to be carried out.

But, I met a lot of people that way. Mr. Green

*giggles* Well I can't quite do that Tober... As much as I can try to have Shadey act drunk, it's got to be one of the hardest things for me to imitate... Mostly because in all my 29 years I've never gotten drunk... Just not the drinking type RL... ^_^

Lately the Zone is hit or miss... However during the day there have been plenty of nekos roaming around (mostly from the 'renewed' Stray faction), but they seem more interested in recruiting me then RPing with me... My CW friends seem so much nicer... Which is funny because the first day I was in Midian, Jack cautioned me that the CW's were the meanest faction of nekos... ^_^

How was it for me..... hmmm.. once I walked into TZ, sat at the bar, get a drink offered ... and then my troubles (the RP) really started ;)

getting noticed is very much about being in the right place at the right time

Nice to see you here Rin!

Anyway how did I start, well two things really, I met Markko who kinda fell for Cat on the first day and luckily he knew a bit about how the city worked and knew a few people, he introduced me to Rin *waves*, who introduced me to Shadow *waves*, I met Craven and Stoltz during an RP Markko and I were involved and soon we had a bit of a gang of friends going. In terms of moving into a faction I was lucky enough to have a very intense scene during my first week in Midian when I was actually neko, it just so happenes that the char I was RPing with was the alt of someone else, luckily I was on form that day and gave him a run for his money, we had a few RPs as our current characters and to be honest I had to push a bit to RP with this person and to prove myself, the 'interview took about a week of challenging RPs and now I'm in lol.

Cat tends to attrack people because she's a bit of a nutter, she speaks loudly, she drinks heavily and she has a hot temper, she is also quite sexually agressive and will hit on people, I find they then take notice of her. Of course if you are RPing a shy character it may take longer, but you can still put yourself in the right place at the right time. I knew which faction I wanted before going for it because the mercs is the only place Cat can really do the things she does and be rewarded for it, I'm lucky to have made good ooc friends there now and still keep the bonds I have with my non-faction friends (even if I will try to recruit them lol).

It did take about a month before anyone knew who I was.

It's really quite simple sometimes in my opinion. I was playing an information broker for a while and as such it's a matter of meeting the people IC'ly and getting to know certain people in certain factions. once you know them it's like some strange door opens and there's a lot of RP. Not to mention.. It always helps to be the anthithesis to the official faction

I spent my first week keeping quiet, looking around to see who had the most popular characters and looked cool, then I coughed up blood in front of them. After that, I got a job in the TZ as a bartender (you meet a lot of people and gain a lot of influence, trust me.) Cool, no? Very Happy

My first day I walked down main street andkinda watched people for a little bit then struck up a conversation with Jax Blackflag. After a while and a pipe to his head we became fast friends and things rolled from there. I became a merc with him and really didn't get too noticed until I had a contract taken out on the whole Hounds gang.....And so my life fell down the big holes of Rp to where I am today.

My first days were rough, I had come from a different kind of rp, so I made a fool of myself (whats new.) I assimilated myself, then I took the role as the mysterious nice guy and I spent all my time meeting people and with the help of my little friend the "Hot Mexican" I was able to get known real fast. There truly is no better drink.
And speaking of that drink, Rin I hope you enjoyed it because you are in a whole heap of rp now (-;
All in all it took a lot of listening and getting to know the protocol, then saying fuck it and start some trouble.

When I first started I didn't really get noticed either. But I started just popping out emotes and trying to show that I was really interested in rping and playing and that I wasn't clueless. Eventually I engaged some people and I've been in some stories.

It seems that because Midian is an open world, plenty of folks who aren't interested in RPing or staying in character show up. It's hard to tell whos who, so I generally ignore new people until I see them around a bit.

My advice would be:

Use descriptive emotes, even if you are just sitting around. Show people you want to help "Create" the world.

Engage people, don't wait to be engaged.

Give it time to make friends.

After a while I think you'll find some folks you like to tplay with, sync up times and you're gold.
