Marina was raised by her three older brothers, after their recently widowed father drank himself to an early death following the brutal murder of their mother during a vicious robbery of the family restaurant. Fiercely protected by them, yet testing them constantly with her rebelliousness nature and sharp tongue, her adolescence was one risky adventure after another, usually getting bailed out by her brothers. At the age of 19 though, they were shipped off to the War, and she was forced to run the restaurant herself. It seemed as if it might be the time when she would finally grow up and come into her own, but her brothers were picked off, one by one killed in the War: two on the battlefield and one kidnapped and tortured by the enemy. Marina sank into a deep depression, mirroring her father's descent. In this unusual state of vulnerability and helplessness, she was taken advantage of by an intense foreigner who moved her in with him and took her under his wing. For four years he blessed her with education and manners, slowly grooming her to be his submissive. Though this was a part of her nature, and her fondness and gratitude had grown to such an extent by then, she could not stand for the torture that he began to inflict upon her as a mental sickness invaded his mind. She escaped him (the 'how' still unclear due to pending evidence) and fled to the countryside. Here, she was taken in by monks and in an unusual situation even they admit to, nurtured her and built her mental and physical strength. After two years, she returned to city living, working odd jobs here and there that paid well but demanded little of her time and played to her talents. She made good friends with both the up-scale and lower niches of society: being able to get along with different types of people as needed was a strength for her. She rather enjoyed these years, as she always felt like a floater who was never fully part of something, and the excitement and ever-changing pace of the city challenged and thrilled her. Eventually, the nefarious ones in society, specifically, an ambitious Senator who had a corrupt cop on his side conspired with one of her drug bosses to frame her and she was forced to flee ... arriving in Midian City. Currently employed as lead security for the Dark Times, Midian's only newspaper, she works closely with the reporters and its editor, ensuring privacy and protection. Though loyal and enamored with her job and to Purity, she constantly wants more.. still feeling like she doesn't quite belong... on the fringe.. seeking adventure.

Choosy of who she spends time with, she's often seen alone, but it isn't to be mistaken for loneliness - instead, a rather active solitude. Struggles with being with people whom she can't respect, only stays with those she does. Doesn't take well to female authority, however, she has a special fondness and relationship with her boss that is the exception. Doesn't speak much about her past or the present for that matter - believes powerfully in privacy and loyalty.
