Well, just dont get mythical about Krav.
It is most likely as good as any modern killing technique. Being untrained means that you will be slower than trained ones, your reflexes are slow, your moves clumsy and not precise or accurate. You can be master of all masters of any martial art by knowledge, but without practice, you are just another boy playing shaolin.
As it is, from my personal experience, you have to train and train hard to have real edge in Musado, which is practicaly on same principles with Krav as it seems. Well, I mean, you have to do that to have real edge in combat. _________________

Seems I will have to make my way over to the bunker and try to start some conversation then.... _________________ ....without the shadows, the light will blind us....

Kalarippayattu
There is a little bit of India. Martial arts comming from Kerala and contiguous parts of neighbouring Tamil Nadu of Southern India. Sadly I know practicaly nothing about this one, so if anyone is more knowledgable, I would love to hear some details.

Well While I'm not so good with the youtube searching and such... I had to waste a few hours tonight, so I went to a book store and came across a book that I think may replace my big book of martial arts. It's called "The Complete Guide to World Martial Arts". And it sure seems pretty damn complete.... It even discusses historically Egyptian stick fighters, English 'Masters of Defence', Victorian Era boxing, Fechtbucher styles from Europe, Pankration, and wrestling... Has a whole section on famous historical fighters from different areas of the world...
At over 800 pages I not sticking it all in this thread even in excerpts, but I'll try to toss a few bits and pieces out there as I read it... |

But I am looking forward to seeing something more exotic, though I am personaly quite interested fechtbuchs as seeing what do they have to say on such topic might bring me an idea on how acurate the book is. _________________

Well it's not that particular book. This is a more classic hard cover book and outside some illustrations, is low on pictures. It starts off with a history of martial arts by region and/or country.
I haven't gotten to the meat yet (the styles described), but I'll take a look into the 'Fechtbucher' section when I get home. So far it's made references to the history of the term and what it means. As well as namin the 'famous' person to betray his style and pass out the key to understanding the text of one particular Fechtbucher style manual. |

As far as real historical European martial arts goes, you can't beat ARMA. There was a local group in my area for a while and I learned more from them about swords, and knives than I ever really ever need to know. To move up in the organization you have to publish. After kicking my butt I'd ask somebody to show me what the hell they just did to me, they would go to a primary resource like a manuscript and show me that they followed de spada or spanish circle rules of combat, for example. They also do la canne (the cane), which was pictured above. They use everything from wooden wasters to blunts and even sharps. They test cut on japanese test cutting mats. They're hard core scholars:

Most of the time when I do martial arts it's with the SCA, since they're always around. I tend to follow the Bellatrix fighting style. It's an older style, but it's fast and from what I can tell, it's the best way to get the most power from a swing (we are famous for hitting hard in my area).

We have a capoeria class on campus. I've never done it myself, but the teacher learned it in Brazil. They play music and move slower than you'd expect. Maybe advanced practitioners move faster, I don't know. |

It is not like that ARMA is only of that kind. There are many schools around the europe and I wouldnt really like to start argue who is best at it.
Am I wrong, or none of these people have steel weapons?
From what I know in my country there is SEBU and Magisterium. Both of which also famous in its way and with techniques very effective. Not a martial art as a sport, but fighting skills.
