As a faction leader and Admin in Midian ...

I admit I am embarrassed to send new people in our city to the forum ...

In an OOC forum where we are all allowed to voice our opinions, we (yes I include myself as I am part of the forum and city) are constantly bickering and disrespecting each other. How can we expect new people to believe that their RP will be respected?

Is this what we want people to see?

OOC - Out Of Character - you are talking to the people at the keys - not the characters

Never, Id rather see people just sharing opinions and ideas to make Midian a better place, rather then people coming on here flaming because someone didnt agree with them and they cant take the idea rejection applied into a post.

Just my two cents. And I dont want my change.....

Exactly, but you know, dealing with it is easier said than done. its not just about inviting people here though, it needs to be fixed to stop an exodus.

If someoen really cares enough to do something about it, then they will go as far as they can to make sure its done.

One person can make a difference, as well as one person could bring it all down.

Which person are you gonna be people?

STANDS and APPLAUDS for "O". Yes, I heartily agree. Sorry what I just posted in the other thread is not here.

COPIES AUNTIE'S OTHER POST HERE FOR HER:

Decides to take a long walk on a short plank.

Having spent a few days on forums/chat rooms and video business conferences, I have observed over the years that forums of this nature will always tend to be abusive in nature, because the person doing the posting is usually afforded a bit of "cover" by not being seen in person.

Something I have discovered is that to SOME PEOPLE, what they say on a forum is truly their crowning accomplishment in life and they will do all they can to convince people of its importance. While this may be fine for the poster, if the reader does not see what is being said in the same light of importance, problems commence.

I have always tried to post by a few basic rules, that have served me well. One is never posting in haste, as it is the words written in the anger of the moment that tend to be most hateful. One of the great lessons in life is that you can tell far more about the character of a person not by what others say about them, but by what they say about others.

Never post anything that you have to come back and defend over and over, simply because one of the first things we should learn in life is that you only have to defend your words and actions when they are wrong. If what you say is true and what you do is right, then time and truth will bear that out and no words you hear in the meantime can take that away. Yes, TRUTH is the only equalizer.

Replying to a personal attack is useless and frankly, it's what the person who posted it usually wants. I often see an attack toward another person posted and just imagine that the person who wrote it is sitting there, one hand on the keyboard, the other hand on their pecker (assuming they are male) and are just waiting for your reply, so they can attack you again and get a few strokes. Sorry folks, but I won't be "jacking anybody off" on a forum. You will find it amazing how quickly not replying can difuse something. Of course, the poster who has slammed you will in their own mind think they won, but any rational thinking person knows otherwise.

There is nothing wrong on occasions injecting a bit of humor into a thread, especially when you see it starting to sour. Of course it irritates the flamers as they thrive on the arguement and the "power" that they think what they are posting says, but for some it gives them pause to sit back, take a breath and see that the post is deteriorating.

If someone attacks you on here (and YES, we can all tell when a post is not meant to be constructive but hurtful) the best response is nothing. As they say why bother getting into the mud and fight with a pig, because frankly you both end up dirty, but the pig will enjoy it.

What it really boils down to, is what we see on a screen are just thoughts and opinions. Of course not everyone will agree with us nor should they. The world progresses not because everyone agrees, but because people have different thoughts and ideas, different ways of doing things and are looking for results that suit them best.

Until we realize that MIDIAN is far greater than any one idea, theme or postings by an individual these problems will continue. I'm sure that we all wish MIDIAN could be exactly what we want it to be, but it never will. It is going to be a mixture of different people, playing different roles that they want and thats how it should be.

Yes, we have BASIC RULES for MIDIAN, but if a person is not violating them, is active and engaging in RP with people we should be glad they are here. Sure, it might not be our cup of tea but as long as it helps MIDIAN grow and prosper, then it has to be accepted.

Frankly, I wish just a small portion of the time spent argueing over things on this forum was spent in actual RP as if it was the amount of RP would greatly increase. We need more people doing things in MIDIAN then debating things here.

Yes, I wish the tone on here was different, but it wont be until people learn that your candle doesnt burn any brighter when you extinguish the candle of another, it just makes it a little darker for everyone else.
