You plan an RP for your faction, the plan is not general knowledge, was only provided to the NPC group, which I would hope is sworn to secrecy, and a few members of your faction.
One of your faction members shares it with whoever asks them to outside the faction prior to the RP.....kosher or should not be done?

As much as I hate to say it I would say unless it was specifically stated in the plans that it should not be shared then it's perfectly kosher.
Don't expect people to assume then you can't be upset when they assume the wrong thing.

Well in this case, it was a secret KAOS member's meeting, so I would think that was implied, but I see what you are saying Angel. The purpose of having IC sections here is to hide info from other factions as well, so are you saying any info we post as a faction, we should add a disclaimer not to tell those outside the faction?
I will definately be doing that from now on I guess, so this never happens again, thanks for the input Angel. ^^

Given the amount of meta info that is used icly I'd say it's not kosher.
OOCLY if it can be 100 percent gauranteed that the info will not be acted upon IC, then sure tell whoever.

but we all know where we are, we all know theres god moders, power gamers and meta magicians.
So no don't share... plus. It kind of ruins the surprise.
One should always ask before sharing any secret period, wether that secret is IC or OOC.
but yes a disclaimer makes it very clear. |

Depends on RP. If it is internal faction RP, why the hell anyone outside should know?
If it is interfaction RP the leader of oter faction should know and decide on who to pass it in own faction.
I always liked gamemastering, and I like the stories behind. So I like to know. But if I am playing a character, not being gamemaster, one of things I definitly expect is surprise from the story. I hate this being spoiled when it doesnt need to be spoiled. The longing for knowledge is a good drive, if everyone knows front , why the hell anyone would even come there. It was already said and written and nothing new out of the scene aside of avatars standing at one place.
But... if you have a friend who likes to know or who is trustworthy, it is not that bad thing to share bits of it, perhaps make sorta preview. Again it us up to consideration. I think I would never do it if I was typical member of group. If I am one of leading members, it is definitly different, because that means part in GM role and then the sharing usualy goes hand in hand with achieving goal of RP working trough allright.
And of course. Asking front never hurts.

Well coming from point of view where secrecy is highly important, I have made it a point that things for the most part kept quiet OOC and IC. Although considering location and such, some bits are released as well as people that talk, but that is expected. I also tend to think that if I didn't keep things so secret among the members more than just existence of Acerenza would be common knowledge, and that would make it usesless.
And right now, no one should even know the name of the group IC except for those in it, even then the name is an unspoken term.

Actually, I talk a lot about RPs with my friends, no matter if they are involved or uninvolved and some are doing the same with me. But this all happens between people, who wont use such things ICly. Sharing OOC info is also a way to get people involved by planning something with people outside the normal faction circle.... if this is possible as specific innerfaction RPs are what they are ... specific innerfaction RPs and should be handled that way.
And if someone starts to tell secrets ICly. Well ... you have this plank ...

With regards to use of the IC forums .... Yes in that case I would say that secrecy is strongly implied. But with regards to group notices then you need to be specific. Also the NPC group is an open enrollment group so while one would hope that posting a notice to them wouldn't lead to them telling the world but you don't know.

When I hold briefings IC I always state the briefings and the mission is to be kept only between UAC/Legion personnel and I also state in OOC that I would like the information to be kept secret. I just do this to minimise the risks of metaing.
My serious pet hate at present is when people listen through walls and before you know it, the whole city knows what your doing! It ruins RP and does nothing but put peoples back up OOC.

when requesting help from the NPC group you should only be giving general information to get the help you need ... full details don't need to be given until you find the person (s) needed ... sworn to secrecy may be the wrong term but anything that is heard there is OOC knowledge and can not be used IC
As far as one of your faction members sharing ... there can be a few reasons ... either they were not clear it was OOC knowledge and used it IC ... they thought they were passing it to someone else as OOC who used it IC ... or maybe they are a spy
It is ultimately up to the faction leaders to keep this OOC/IC cross over of information under control within their factions ... it is OUR job to help keep the role play on track as we are each a GM for our faction

No, it was very clear the info was OOC, should have been pretty clear it was a secret since it was a 'secret' faction meeting, but next time, I will be anally clear, lol. Thanks for everyone's comments, all were very helpful.

I wouldn't exclude the possibility of strangling them to death in front of the whole pride, just because they might provide one last service to them. So, I'm not likely to get all touchy-feely with spies in my group. So with that note I found it IMPOSSIBLE to vote because being upset with it wasn't an option in your poll.
