Yep, that's the basics. I'd take a decline from someone better that doesn't get all whiny and says, "Why me! You cats always pick on me! Go away!"
But then, that's a pretty nice whine, compared to some of the one's I'd gotten from Midian. <.<
Just gracefully decline a snipe hit and keep things cordial, like you would if you didn't want to fight, and most snipers will respect that. |

As one of the more notorious snipers of the pack I would like to say that I completely agree with a lot of the suggestions given. One of the main things I have been trying to do is find a way to clear shiroyu's name as a sniper given the various stunts I've pulled in the previous year or two. Given the circumstances I've drastically decreased the weapon usage of my characters and have put significant caps on their ammunition (neither ever carries a full clip for either weapon).Shiroyu is a sniper still and he has had training in his past. In correlation to what was said above about random sniping and the effect it has on rp, I agree that shots should not be taken often and should have serious reprecautions.I also say sniping is a legitamate rp strategy and should be treated as such. Characters in midian should always be aware of possibility of being sniped. It can happen if you piss off the wrong people. _________________ "All your base are belong to us." Hehe, indeed. Would love to go on another sniping mission on either of my characters.
Although, the one annoying thing is, the whole weapons issue and people getting picky on details about how you could possibly have that weapon. My simplest advice on pretty much anything here is, quit being picky about details and just RP. If you don't want to RP it, then don't. Find a way to respectfully decline. There's nothing that kills RP combat more than when someone gets fussy over details, disrespects fellow RPers and, instead of -talking- to them -directly- about things that are questioned, going around and complaining to everyone else about how 'bad' one thinks the RPer is.
I speak from experience on both ends, seeing it done in IMs and Group chats. Sometimes out in the open, but rarely. After all, bickering about fellow RPers out in the open is going to cause drama. However, doing it in IMs and Group Chat does too. For one, it could create a mutual false preconception of the RPer being talked about, and for another, it's just plain rude.
How does that have to do with snipers? Simple. People see them perched up on a rooftop of something. Person A IMs Person B, or gets B, C, D, etc. on Group chat and starts saying something like, "Oh GAWD! It's Sniper X again! WTF?! How can he possibly have that weapon/how can that be allowed? He isn't doing anything, but just -look- at him up there. He must be planning to use it, and cause mischief. tsk tsk."
What's the problem here? Well in both cases, there's a bit of metagaming going on. Spotting sniper X, then getting everyone all riled up about this person -before- this person has had a chance to make a move, it just messes up any sort of planning and poisons the well of potential RPers that may have wanted to RP out something with sniper X. But now, Sniper X has just been called out in IM or Group Chat, and people are saying behind his back how terrible an RPer this person is.
And ok, on -some- level, we're all going to suggest a person avoid another RPer, but still, put down that person's integrity as an RPer and void a scene with a person -before- even having a chance to RP with them? I think that's doing a disservice all around. Sure, warn a friend about someone, but should try not to limit RP and bad mouth another RPer and then spoil their RP? That's just rude, regardless on if you think the person merited getting bashed to the point of deterring others away from RP.
And all that to say, if you like the way someone RPs, then RP with them. If not, then don't. But bickering about it solves nothing and takes away from the fun of RP. _________________ Damnant quod non intelligunt |

Wait, I usually avoid sniping by being a main character in my story. Ever see a movie where the main hero gets sniped and happens to be saved by the bible in his pocket or by pending down to tie his shoes? Ahhh... it's so nice to be a main character. _________________ www.leagueofengineers.com |

*wraps up in plot armor, and rolls around feeling all fuzzy and sighing happily*
Anyone who thinks plot armor is bad, should probably think about the last time they RP'd taking a dump, getting an infected toenail, or go through about a billion other non-cinematic sequences - not to mention how many of us would be dead from disease and poisoning in this resource-empty polluted shithole of an island. _________________ www.leagueofengineers.com |

The movie and book called Jarhead certainly portraits the wonderful life of a Scout Sniper nicely.. Well, I had to bring it up after reading this thread since I saw the movie recentl, sorry Debra.
And yes Archer, we finns are pretty awesome. |

Speaking as a Jarhead, I have "issues" with the movie of that same name _________________ Debra Charron, Commander
